IN-PERSON WORKSHOP

The 12th century abbess, Hildegard of Bingen was an extaordinary force to be reckoned with, and an inspiration for women today, especially those in the second half of life. She was a nun, an artist, composert, herbalist, writer and community leader. Her ideas can help us with our own health, creativity, wellbeing and resilience in today’s changing world.

While a benedictine nun, many of Hildegard’s ideas have resonances with other spiritual and nature-based paths, from Celtic druids to the Vedic healers of India, and it is this that we will explore. Her perspective was profoundly female and resolutely grounded in nature. Her understanding of the medicinal properties of plants, the way she sees how the things we tell ourselves can shape the world around us, and her thoughts on food, exercise and the materials we surround ourselves with create a compelling and practical roadmap for life in the 21st century.

Hildegard stepped into her own power in her mid-40s, and at a time when the average life expectancy of women was 35, she lived to the age of 83. In recognition of the second half of her life, we will use this workshop to celebrate and empower the second half of ours.

In this introductory workshop we will explore the following:

  • Hildegard’s extraordinary life story – a woman in a man’s world

  • The mystic’s art – we will look at some of her extraordinary artworks and music

  • The idea of vices & virtues  - how we can change our own self-talk

  • Where emotions are mapped on the body – and how to work with them

  • Hildegard’s thoughts for a better life – everything is connected

This will be a deeply experiential workshop and a wonderful taster for a fuller online offering available in 2026.

The workshop will take place in Havelock North.

The Inspiration that is Hildegard!

“I knew nothing about St Hildegard of Bingen before attending Georgina's workshop but came away feeling truly inspired. Hildegard was a woman way ahead of her time and Georgina wove all of Hildegard's amazing skills and talents into a very relatable time. It was great to sit alongside other lovely ladies as we heard of life in Germany 900 years ago and applied it to our own lives. Georgina ran an inspiring course in her beautiful studio - I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn more about the incredible St Hildegard ❤️” - M

Lovely Time with Georgina and Hildegard

Georgina was a wonderfully genuine facilitator of the recent St Hildegard/Mystic's Garden workshop I attended. Georgina provided us with a casual and loving space in her room and beautiful garden. I enjoyed listening to her knowledge and enthusiasm of Hildegard and the plants, connection to the cosmos, art and History. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend attending any of Georgina’s workshops.” Tina
