Seen and Unseen
Oil on canvas
100cm x 100cm
This is from my Tigermoth series. I love the strange perspective one gets of the landscape as the plane turns, and shifts in altitude. This painting is of a view along the Tuki Tuki river in Hawke's Bay. I painted it while in Germany living in Bonn, and working for the United Nations Environment Programme on a study called TEEB (The Economics of Ecosystems and Biodiversity) in which we explored ways of making the value of nature and the cost of ecosystem degradation more visible.
At the time of taking this tigermoth flight, the Tuki Tuki River was unswimmable because of toxic algae that had flourished because of pollutants.
