In this episode of the Soul Garden, I have found myself reflecting on the proximity of Earth Day to ANZAC Day. It made me think of the loss and the fallen.

I was looking around on the web and on the Greenpeace site I found a list of 18 species that have gone extinct in the past 100 years. I have expressed them here as a way of naming some of the fallen, naming just some of the species that have gone extinct since WWI due to human impacts. I have named them inthis episode as a form of Lectio divina, a type of prayerful, meditative reading.

In my life time, in our lifetime as midlife women, the extinction rate has accelerated to over 700 x faster than the estimated naturel rate of extinction. What are we going to do to try to create a better world for all of us? What are ways we can work to help change those grim statistics? What are we going to do for those young women and men growing up after us?
