The hugely talent yoga teacher, Gabrielle Harris asked me if I could make a plant essence elixir to support Yin yoga practice and I jumped at the chance!
Yin characteristics: passive, negative, darkness, earth, north slope, cloudy, water, softness, female, moisture, night-time, downward-seeking, slowness, consuming, cold, odd numbers, and docile aspects of things.
After much thought and time spent with the Archeus Essences, the following plants stepped forward to be in this YIN ELIXIR.
- Cleavers (Galium aparine)
- Evening Primrose (Oenothera biennis)
- Motherwort (Leonurus cardiaca)
- Mullein (Verbascum thapsus)
- Silver Birch (Betula alba)
- Violet (Viola odorata)
These plants represent different aspects of the YIN character. Violet, Cleavers and Silver Birch have something watery about them. Evening Primrose joyously celebrates flexibility of mind and body. Motherwort can be dark and moody and her energy is fiercely female. Mullein brings forward the wisdom of elders. Silver Birch also digs down deep into the soil, grounding us with grace and elegance. Plant essences are not fragrant. They work at an energetic level. The deeper we look into Nature, the more she reveals to us, including the ways she can help us with our own soul journeys.
Archeus Plant Essences & Elixirs can add a beautiful energetic dimension to yoga practice. They can be used in a number of ways:
- Is there an aspect of your Self that you wish to enhance or focus on for your practice? Select the corresponding essence or elixir e.g Yin elixir for deepening your Yin practice, Silver birch for grace, rosemary for focus, motherwort for lion-hearted strength, evening primrose for flexibility, Letting Go elixir for well, letting go and so on. Meditate on that essence prior to your practice and take 2 drops internally and add a drop or two to your water bottle. Picture the aspects of the plant and what they bring to you and your practice.
- In a studio setting you could create a series of Nature practices – selecting an essence or elixir for the session and put a couple of drops in an aroma diffuser so that its energy permeates the room. At the beginning of class tell your students what the plant is, its attributes, the negative aspects it can help calm and the positive aspects it manifests. You could also anoint students with a drop of the essence.
This is a truly beautiful thing to do, as one is able to picture the plants working with one’s body and mind as you do your practice. It is immensely grounding and adds to that delicious sense of yoga being a moving meditation.
This Yin Elixir Blend contains Plant essences, Aqua, Grape alcohol
10ml/0.33 fl.oz stock oral dropper bottle
Place 2-3 drops on the tongue or add to a glass of water. Repeat 3-4 times daily or as required.
